Higgins' 17 points lead Randallstown to title

Sport Basketball

BOYS

Randallstown won its second straight state title, and for the second consecutive year, Johnny Higgins was the primary catalyst. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound guard scored a team-high 17 points and had eight rebounds to lead the No. 2 Rams (26-1) to Saturday's of the Eastern Shore.

Higgins, whose team won last year's 3A state title, had 15 points, 11 rebounds and six assists in the Rams' 63-42 semifinal rout of last year's 2A state champ, Potomac of Prince George's County. The title was the Rams' fourth overall and third since 2001, raising 12th-year coach Kim Rivers' career record to 268-43.

In last year's state semifinal and title games, Higgins combined for 45 points, 12 rebounds, 11 steals and seven assists. A junior academically, but a senior athletically, Higgins is likely to attend a prep school.

Others considered: Lyndon Jones, Randallstown, basketball; Darryl Webb, Long Reach, basketball; Delano Johnson, Dunbar, basketball.
