Distance -- 325 laps, 500.5 miles

2005 champion -- Carl Edwards

Last year -- Edwards' Ford passed Jimmie Johnson's Chevrolet coming off the final turn, barely edging Johnson in a side-by-side sprint to the checkered flag, for the first win of Edwards' career. Edwards, who had started fourth, went on to win three more races last season. Greg Biffle was third and Mark Martin finished fourth as three Fords finished in the top four. Johnson left Atlanta with an 82-point lead over Biffle in the Nextel Cup standings.

Drivers to watch -- Edwards swept both races at the track last season. ... Newman has won an unprecedented six straight poles at Atlanta, but he has never won a race there. ... Richard Childress Racing leads all Nextel Cup teams with five wins in the spring Atlanta race. (Kevin Harvick, Dave Blaney and Jeff Burton currently drive for Childress.) ... Jeff Gordon has four wins at the track, but none since 2003. ... Bobby Labonte leads active full-time drivers with six wins at Atlanta.

Quotable -- "You have those days when it's so hot in the car you want to get out. Today, it's so cold, you want to get in." - Driver Kyle Busch, on the unseasonably cool Las Vegas weather over the weekend.
