On Thursday, March 9, 2006, SARAH SIMMONS WHITE, died at the home of her daughter, Willa Harris, in Jericho, VT. She was born on January 1, 1921 to George B. and Georgie (Swindell) Simmons in Richmond, VA, but she lived most of her life in Baltimore. She graduated from Bryn Mawr School in 1939, and in 1943 married William H. Harris, Jr, who was killed in action over Japan in WWII. In 1949 she married Thomas J. White, Jr., Managing Editor of the Baltimore News American who predeceased her in 1987. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Edward, William and Julian Simmons. She is survived by one brother Dr. Bradford Simmons of Inverness, CA, sisters-in-law, Barbara Simmmons of Baltimore, Olive Metcalf of Bristol, ME and brother-in-law John Michael White of Delray Beach, FL. She is also survived by her son, Justin White and his family of Carmel, CA and her daughter and son-in-law, Willa Harris and David Binch of Jericho, VT., with whom she has lived for the past several years. There will be a private burial in Baltimore, on April 28, 2006. Friends and family are invited to celebrate her life afterwards at Elkridge Estates Apartments, 6025 Roland Ave, between the hours of 4 and 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Hospice, c/o VNA, 1110 Prim Rd., Colchester, VT 05446 or to the charity of your choice.
