Girl, 2, drowns in bathtub

A 2-year-old girl drowned in a Hampstead apartment Friday after her stepfather briefly left her unattended in the bathtub, state police said yesterday. After the man took her 4-year-old sibling out to be dressed in another room, he returned and found the 2-year-old facedown in the tub, police said. Police arrived at the apartment, in the 4000 block of Gill Ave., at 9:30 p.m. and the girl was pronounced dead at 10 p.m. at Carroll Hospital Center. Investigators would not release the name of the girl or stepfather.

Roof partially collapses in fire

A roof partially collapsed during a one-alarm house fire last night in Jacksonville, officials said. The fire occurred about 10 p.m. in the 5200 block of Patterson Farms Road, said Lt. Pierre Thode of the Baltimore County Fire Department. Thode said the fire apparently started in the garage and spread to the house. One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, Thode said. Because the fire's location was not near hydrants, Thode said, several crews were called to help battle the blaze.
