School to present `Sound of Music'

Century High School's Drama Club, the Opening Knights, will present The Sound of Music at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and March 24 and 25 in the school auditorium, 355 Ronsdale Road, Eldersburg.

The play features music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 at the door, or in advance by e-mailing hmmckei@12k.carr.org. Tickets can be paid for and picked up the night of the performance.

Advance tickets also will be sold at the school from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the ticket booth.

Saint James plans Saturday concert

Saint James United Methodist Church will hold a Saturday evening concert, An Evening of Sweet Praise Music, at 7 in the sanctuary at 12470 Old Frederick Road, Marriottsville.

Consort Anon, West Liberty UMC Music Ministry and Saint James UMC Music Ministry will perform.

Donations will be accepted.

Church marks 170 years with concerts

Springfield Presbyterian Church in Sykesville is celebrating its 170th anniversary this year with a concert series.

The first concert will be held at 3 p.m. March 19 featuring the bell choirs and chancel choirs of Springfield Presbyterian and Oaklands Presbyterian of Laurel.

Pianist Jay De Wire, a doctoral candidate in piano performance at the University of Maryland, College Park will also perform. The program will include many different styles of music.

The concert is open to the public, but seating is limited and reservations are requested.

The church is at 7300 Spout Hill Road.

Country gospel show is planned

Zion United Methodist Church of Shipley will sponsor its annual Country Gospel Music Concert at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. March 19 at Westminster High School, 1225 Washington Road.

The Kingsmen, the Dove Brothers Quartet and the Salem Bottom Boys will perform.

Tickets are $13 for the floor and $7 for the balcony in advance; $15 and $8, respectively, at the door.

Tickets are available at Captain J's (formerly Airport Inn), Baugher's Family Restaurant, Bullock's Country Meats & Farm Market, Diane's Hallmark Shoppe in Westminster, Hess Music in Manchester and Jeff Barnes Chevrolet in Eldersburg.

Refreshments will be available.
