St. Patrick's fest in O.C.

The lowdown -- This year, celebrate St. Patrick's Day by the beach (though it's way too cold for a dip in the water). Ocean City's St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival runs for most of the day Saturday at the 45th Street and Coastal Highway Shopping Center parking lot. The festival features live music and Irish food and drinks. At noon, a parade starts at 61st Street and marches down Coastal Highway to the festival area.

If you go -- The festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. For more information, call 800-OC-OCEAN.

Sweet lesson

The lowdown -- This weekend, learn how maple syrup is made. The process from sap to syrup will be demonstrated at Cunningham Falls State Park on Saturday and Sunday. The history of maple syrup as one of America's first agricultural products will be detailed. Dress for cold weather. For an additional charge, enjoy homemade maple syrup with a sausage-and-pancake breakfast.

If you go -- This event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Cunningham Falls State Park, 14039 Catoctin Hollow Road. Donations are requested. Call 301-271-7574 for details and information on inclement weather delays and cancellations.

To market, to market

The lowdown -- The Spring Fling Market and Craft Show will take over the Agricultural Center in Westminster on Saturday. There will be craft competitions, gourmet foods and plants on display and for sale. This will be the first farmers' market at the Agricultural Center for 2006.

If you go -- The event will be at the Carroll County Agricultural Center, 700 Smith Ave., from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Free. For more information, call 410-848-7748. [SARAH YURGEALITIS]
