Roch around the clock

The Kickoff

March 07, 2006|By ROCH KUBATKO

The Orioles pounded out 21 hits to beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 12-8, yesterday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The Orioles' Andy Tracy homered for the second time in two days, this time launching a ball over the center-field fence.

Nick Markakis had two doubles and has reached base 10 times in 11 plate appearances. This is getting absurd.

"Let's just say he's certainly up to the competition that he's faced so far," manager Sam Perlozzo said.

Hayden Penn starts for the Orioles today against the Boston Red Sox in Fort Myers. He'll be followed by Brian Finch, Eddy Rodriguez and Vic Darensbourg.

Jonathan Papelbon starts for the Red Sox.

I'll be there to keep you updated. To save time, I've already given Markakis two hits and an RBI.
