Ernest R. Goddard Jr., 92, welder and steamfitter

Ernest R. Goddard Jr., a retired welder and steamfitter and lifelong Annapolis resident, died of heart failure Feb. 28 at his home. He was 92.

He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Annapolis and worked at the Trumpy Yacht Yard before becoming a member of what became Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 486. He was a steamfitter and welder for 40 years, spending many years of his career at Bethlehem Steel's Sparrows Point shipyard.

He was a member of the Severna Park Elks Club, Annapolis Moose and Eastport Democratic Club.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Annapolis.

Mr. Goddard enjoyed fishing, crabbing, vegetable gardening and caring for his fruit trees.

His wife of 65 years, the former Johanna Macek, died in 2004.

Services were held Friday.

Surviving are a son, Ernest R. Goddard III of New Orleans; a daughter, Joan M. Barksdale of Annapolis; a brother, John Goddard of Annapolis; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
