Lisbon fire company plans basket bingo

Lisbon Volunteer Fire Company Inc. will sponsor basket bingo at the Lisbon fire hall, 1330 Woodbine Road, at 7 p.m. March 24. Doors open at 6 p.m. Food will be sold.

Tickets are $15 in advance (including one free game) and $18 at the door, if available. Tickets include 20 games and door prizes. Special and raffles are also planned.

Prizes are Longaberger baskets, pottery and wrought-iron items filled with goodies.

West Friendship PTA plans fundraiser

The West Friendship Express, a fundraiser for the West Friendship Elementary School PTA, will be at Baldwin Station Restaurant at 7 p.m. March 18 with a silent auction.

Tickets are $50 and include dinner, live entertainment and the opportunity to bid on vacation home rentals, autographed celebrity photographs, sports memorabilia, restaurant gift certificates and themed gift baskets prepared by the children.

The PTA hopes to purchase a jazz band drum set and classroom television sets with the proceeds.

Book club to meet at Glenwood library

The Glenwood library will hold a meeting of its Western Howard County Seniors Book Club at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The group will discuss Crow Lake by Mary Lawson. Books are available at the branch. Registration is not required. New members are welcome.

The Mother/Daughter Book Club, for daughters ages 11 and older and their mothers, will meet at 7 p.m. March 15. The group will discuss A Corner of the Universe by Ann M. Martin. Refreshments will be served.

The library will offer a talk on "Trends in Kitchen Remodeling" by Jason Swiger, at 7 p.m. March 16. Registration is required.

"Try Yoga," an opportunity to learn basic postures and relaxation techniques with yoga instructor Susan Kain, will be held at 7 p.m. March 20. Participants should wear comfortable clothes and take blankets. Registration is required.

Fred Glueckstein, author of The '27 Yankees, will provide glimpses of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and other stars, and detailed accounts of events on and off the diamond at 7 p.m. March 27. Rare photographs will be shown, and copies of the books will be available for purchase and signing. Registration begins March 13.

Completes training -- Navy Seaman Recruit Stephen K. Chvala, son of Richard A. and Rachelle M. Chvala of Highland, has completed Navy basic training at Great Lakes, Ill. He is a 2005 graduate of Reservoir High School.

Earns honors -- Air Force Cadet Steven M. Burgess, son of Michael and Vicky Burgess of Woodbine, has earned honors with placement on the dean's list at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Musical fairy tale -- The Glenelg High School drama department will present the musical Once Upon a Mattress, based on the fairy tale The Princess and the Pea, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and at 2:30 p.m. March 12 in the school auditorium. Dance, auction -- The River Hill Boosters group will sponsor its ninth Dinner Dance and Silent Auction from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday at Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville. Coffee with principal -- Folly Quarter Middle School, 13500 Triadelphia Road, near Glenelg, will offer Coffee and Conversation with Principal Carl Perkins from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 23. Bull roast -- Tickets are being sold for the Reservoir High School Boosters' fourth Bull Roast & Silent Auction, to be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. March 24 in the Great Room at Historic Savage Mill.
