A dad's dance of discovery

One recent Saturday in Columbia, I discovered something about my own life as I was covering the Howard County Department of Parks and Recreation's "Daddy Daughter Dance" for dads and their 4-to-6-year-old daughters.

I shot an image of Julia Wagus, 5, of Ellicott City sporting a wrist corsage as she held the hand of her dad, Mark Wagus, before the dance.

I was in a room filled with dads who have the wisdom to enjoy these moments with their daughters while the dads are still the most important men in their lives. And I was saddened to think how quickly my own little girl is growing up.

Two days later I was very happy to see an invitation in my e-mail box to a similar event being held by my daughter's Brownie troop. I can't wait to go with her.
