Nellie B. Brady, 81, registered nurse for 30 years

Nellie B. Brady, a retired registered nurse who had worked at several area hospitals, died of a heart attack Feb. 24 at her Towson home. She was 81.

She was born Nellie Buck in Baltimore and raised in Guilford. She was a 1943 graduate of Eastern High School and earned her nursing degree in 1946 from Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing.

While at the school of nursing, she met her future husband, Dr. Frank J. Brady, who was completing a rotating internship at the hospital. They were married in 1946.

Dr. Brady, who was head of anesthesiology at Maryland General Hospital for three decades, died in 2002.

During a 30-year career, Mrs. Brady served on the nursing staff at Church Home and Hospital, Union Memorial Hospital and Maryland General. She retired from Maryland General in 1975.

"In her retirement, she continued to pursue her love of nursing by overseeing the care of elderly friends and neighbors, as well as her beloved husband at home during his incapacitation by Alzheimer's disease," said her son, F. Joseph Brady Jr. of Towson.

Mrs. Brady enjoyed collecting Hummel figurines, knitting and reading. She also liked visiting Ocean City and spending time at a cottage on the Magothy River.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Towson.

Graveside services were held Wednesday.

Also surviving are a daughter, Virginia Lee Brady of Catonsville.
