Body of man found in burning city rowhouse

March 03, 2006

The body of an unidentified man was found yesterday evening in a burning West Baltimore rowhouse, a Fire Department spokesman said.

Shortly after 7 p.m., firefighters searching the interior of a three-story brick rowhouse in the 500 block of Baker St. after most of the fire had been extinguished found a man's body in a first-floor room, said Chief Kevin Cartwright, the spokesman.

Cartwright said the body showed signs of being burned, but it was not known whether the man died as a result of the fire or another cause.

The body was taken to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy and possible identification through fingerprints, he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Central District police at 410-396-2411 or the Fire Department at 410-396-5690.
