Hopkins women win

Julie Miller had posted her seventh double double of the season to lead the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team to a 56-38 win over Frostburg State in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference South tournament.

The top-seeded Blue Jays (21-7) advance to face Dickinson tomorrow in the semifinals.

The Bobcats (18-10) took a 5-2 lead before Johns Hopkins went on a 7-0 run. After several lead changes, the Blue Jays led 28-21 at the break.

Hopkins took control in the second half, never relinquishing the lead.

The Bobcats trimmed the lead to two at 33-31 with 14:29 to play, but the Blue Jays responded with 12 straight points. Hopkins finished the game on a 13-7 run.

Miller posted game highs of 18 points and 14 rebounds.

Amanda Leese had her eighth double double of the season with 13points and10 rebounds.

McDaniel 70, Catholic 60 -- Katy Powell scored 17 points to power the visiting Green Terror (20-8) past the Cardinals (19-9) in the opening round of the ECAC tournament. McDaniel advances to tomorrow's semifinal at Pitt.-Greensburg at 7 p.m.
