Beastly music

The lowdown -- Scottish band Mogwai will drop by Sonar Tuesday to play songs off its latest album, Mr. Beast. Acclaimed by Alternative Press and Mojo magazines, the band will stop in Baltimore as part of its tour before playing the South by Southwest festival in mid-March.

Rock 'n' comedy

The lowdown -- There's an old joke that every comedian wants to be a rock star and every rock star wants to be a comedian. For the Rock Stars of Comedy Tour, local comedian Mickey Cucchiella fronts his dream band, played by Never Never. The show is more play than standup, and each song has a story to it, Cucchiella said. Comedians Justin Schlagel and Doug Powell also will perform.

Baltimore benefit

The lowdown -- Goucher College will host a benefit for Paul's Place, an organization established to improve the quality of life in Southwest Baltimore. The benefit will include a screening of an episode of HBO's Baltimore drama, The Wire. After the screening, stars and producers from the show will field questions from the audience.

If you go -- The benefit will take place Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. (2 p.m. to 5 p.m. for general admission) at Goucher College, 1021 Dulaney Valley Road.
