Walbrook wins in rout, 95-34

Rodney Spruill had 20 points and 18 rebounds to lead the second-ranked Walbrook boys basketball team to a 95-34 victory over visiting Towson in the Class 3A North regional quarterfinals yesterday.

Spruill's brother, Brandon, added 15 points, and Marc Davis had 10 points and 10 assists and Eric Pitts had 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Walbrook (20-4) is undefeated against Maryland high schools, with its four losses coming against out-of-state schools.

The Warriors advanced to tomorrow night's regional semifinals against Carver.

Catonsville 64, Dundalk 25 -- Steve Weingarten and Neal Davis combined for 42 points as the host Comets (16-6) beat the Owls in a Class 3A North quarterfinal. Catonsville will face Mervo in the semifinals tomorrow.

Carver 67, City 58 -- The Bears (9-12) upset the Knights in a Class 3A North quarterfinal for their first playoff victory since 2001. Carver next will face Walbrook, which beat the Bears by 13 points earlier this season.

Northwestern 77, Overlea 55 -- The Wildcats (16-4) got huge performances from Jeremy Robertson (22 points, eight assists) and Reginald Forbes (18 points, 14 rebounds) to defeat the visiting Falcons in a Class 2A North quarterfinal. Next up is No. 5 Randallstown in tomorrow's semifinals.

Meade 76, Chesapeake-AA 38 -- Johan Jones led all scorers with 23 points and dominated the boards, grabbing 23 rebounds in the Mustangs' Class 4A East quarterfinal win over the Cougars. They will face No. 7 Old Mill in the semifinals tomorrow.

Pikesville 55, Rising Sun 34 -- Gary Weisbaum scored 16 points to power the visiting Panthers (4-17) past the Tigers (10-11) in a Class 1A North quarterfinal. Pikesville will face New Town in the semifinals tomorrow.

No. 14 Annapolis 62, Northeast 44 -- Daishawn Anderson scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the host Panthers (18-5) over the Eagles in a Class 3A East quarterfinal. Kevin Coates added 13 points and seven rebounds for Annapolis, which will play Fallston in the semifinals tomorrow.

No. 7 Old Mill 83, Leonardtown 47 -- Andrew Engel scored 21 points for the host Patriots (22-2) as they crushed the Raiders in a Class 4A East quarterfinal. Rodney Stokes added 16 points and 13 rebounds and Derek Harris had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Old Mill will face Meade tomorrow in the semifinals.

Milford Mill 91, Owings Mills 79 -- Kevin Jones scored 31 points and grabbed five rebounds to lift the host Millers (20-3) over the visiting Eagles in a Class 2A North quarterfinal. Alvin Parker scored 24 points and had seven assists, and Robert Jackson scored 19 points for Milford Mill, which will meet Douglass tomorrow in the semifinals.

No. 8 Douglass 66, Loch Raven 56 -- Tyrone Fleming led the host Ducks (19-3) with 18 points and seven rebounds in the Class 2A North quarterfinal against the Raiders. Antoine Smithson added 17 points for Douglass.

No. 5 Randallstown 59, Poly 53 -- Johnny Higgins scored 27 points for the host Rams (22-1) in a Class 2A North quarterfinal win over the visiting Engineers (12-9). Laquan Williams led Poly with 26 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Randallstown faces Northwestern in tomorrow's semifinals.
