STATS -- Falcons girls basketball coach Dave Griffith said Newton "will run through a wall for you and is a girl who has improved every season since her freshman year." A junior point guard, Newton is a team captain and third-year varsity player who relishes setting up her teammates to score and playing intense defense. While scoring is not her normal duty, she did make five three-pointers against Broadneck in a recent game.

SIDELINES -- Newton also runs cross country and will be a defender on the Falcons' defending county champion lacrosse team this spring. Her weighted grade point average is 4.39 and she scored 1,990 on the new SAT. She is ranked No. 5 in a class of nearly 500.
