Auto Club 500

Site -- Fontana, Calif.

When -- Sunday, 4:05 p.m.

TV -- Ch. 45 (3:30 p.m.)

Track -- California Speedway (2-mile D-shaped oval)

Distance -- 250 laps, 500 miles

2005 champion -- Greg Biffle

2005 pole-sitter -- Kyle Busch

Last year -- Biffle ran near the front of the field for the entire race and took the lead for good on Lap 228. He held off a last-ditch effort by runner-up Jimmie Johnson in the second race of the season. Three drivers from Roush Racing finished in the top 10: Kurt Busch (third), Carl Edwards (fifth) and Mark Martin (seventh). Kurt Busch left the track with a five-point lead over Johnson in the Nextel Cup standings.

Drivers to watch -- Jeff Gordon leads all drivers with three career victories at the track. Kurt Busch, who has two, is the only other driver with more than one, but his brother, Kyle, won the fall race at California Speedway.

Fast facts -- This year's race will be the 12th Nextel Cup event hosted by the track. ... Ford has won six of the previous races and Chevrolet five. ... No driver has won at the track after starting worse than 25th.

Quotable -- "Racecar driving is a little like sex: All men think they're good at it. When you are out there by yourself, you actually are good at it - until somebody else comes on the track." - Tonight Show host Jay Leno, who drove the pace car before the Daytona 500 yesterday
