`Once Upon a Mattress' slated at Glenelg High

The Glenelg High School drama department will present the family-friendly musical Once Upon a Mattress at 7:30 p.m. March 9, 10 and 11 and 2:30 p.m. March 12 in the school auditorium.

About 60 students will perform in the musical, which is based on the fairytale, The Princess and the Pea. "Just another great production," said parent Bonnie Ciborowski.

Tickets, available at the school office, are $8 before March 9; $10 after that date.

Have coffee, talk with the principal

Folly Quarter Middle School, 13500 Triadelphia Road, near Glenelg, will offer "Coffee and Conversation" with Principal Carl Perkins from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 23.

Parents are invited to hear about school activities, talk informally with the principal and discuss a topic at each monthly meeting.

Firefighters plan monthly breakfast

The Fifth District Volunteer Fire Department will hold its monthly country breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Feb. 26 at Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville.

The all-you-can-eat buffet includes pancakes, eggs, potatoes, sausage, bacon and gravy.

The cost is $8 for adults; children to age 4 eat for free.

Completes training -- Marine Corps Pvt. Matthew D. Vanderveer, son of David J. and Mary E. Vanderveer of Woodbine, has completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Red Hatters -- The Department of Recreation and Parks will sponsor a Red Hatters Tea, for those ages 55 and older, from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Waverly Mansion in Marriottsville. Participants are invited to wear purple and red, as is done by members of the Red Hat Society, a women's social organization. A lecture on "Natural Remedies for Women" is planned. At the library -- The Glenwood library, 2350 Route 97, Cooksville, will offer the Graphic Novel Club, for ages 11 to 17, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The group will discuss favorite titles, their styles and drawing techniques. Registration is not needed.

The library's Knitting Circle, a casual group that knits and visits, will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the library. Instruction is not offered. Participants should bring supplies. 410-313-5577.

Dance, auction -- The River Hill Boosters will sponsor its ninth Dinner Dance and Silent Auction from 8 p.m. to midnight March 10 at Ten Oaks Ballroom in Clarksville. Bull roast -- Tickets are now on sale for the Reservoir High School Boosters' fourth Bull Roast & Silent Auction, to be held from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. March 24 in the Great Room at Historic Savage Mill. Tickets for the adults-only event are $37.50 and include dinner, dancing, a silent auction, casino games, raffles and door prizes. Tables for 10 can be reserved. The event sells out early.
