`Eight Below' dogs go the distance

The determinedly cynical needn't bother, but just about everyone else should love Eight Below, in which eight supremely gorgeous sled dogs are forced to make do for themselves on the frozen Antarctic field after being left behind by their owners.

Sure, the movie has human stars: Paul Walker is the guide who cares for the dogs. Jason Biggs is his doofus friend (who will surely come through in a pinch). Bruce Greenwood is the scientist whose mania for discovery forces everyone to take chances they shouldn't. And Moon Bloodgood is a lovely airplane pilot who doubles as Walker's occasional love interest.

Eight Below (Walt Disney Pictures ) Starring Paul Walker, Bruce Greenwood, Jason Biggs. Directed by Frank Marshall. Rated PG. Time 112 minutes
