UMBC wins 6th straight

The UMBC women's basketball team won its sixth straight game, rallying from 16 points down to defeat visiting Vermont, 72-63, yesterday at RAC Arena.

Vermont went on a 29-6 run and held the Retrievers (14-8, 6-5 America East) without a field goal for more than 11 minutes to take a 40-24 lead with 1:15 left in the first period.

In the second half, the Retrievers held the Catamounts (7-14, 3-8) to two field goals the final eight minutes, outscoring them 22-6 during that span.

Sharrie Rohde had 16 points and 10 rebounds for UMBC, and Heather Luttrell scored a career-high 16 points off the bench, including 4-for-4 from three-point range.

James Madison 87, Towson 53 -- Tierra Jackson had 15 points and 13 rebounds for the host Tigers (8-14, 3-10 Colonial Athletic Association) in their loss to the Dukes (18-4, 10-3).

Siena 63, Loyola 60 -- Krystle Harrington scored a team-high 15 points for the visiting Greyhounds (14-9, 9-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), who lost to the Saints (11-12, 7-7).
