Free support groups to meet in county

Upper Chesapeake Health offers a variety of free support groups.

Lupus Support Group will meet at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

An Affective Disorders Support Group for persons diagnosed with depression or manic depression and their families will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Feb. 22 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air.

A support group for individuals who have had bariatric surgery and their families will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace.

A support group for patients with Crohn's disease and their families will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

The American Cancer Society is sponsoring a "Look Good, Feel Better" program for cancer patients at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

Stroke Club, a support group for stroke patients and their families, will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

A diabetes support group will meet at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 21 at Aberdeen Senior Center. To register, call 410-272-4535.

Breast Cancer Awareness Group will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.

Birthplace schedules classes, meetings

The Upper Chesapeake Family Birthplace offers classes and support groups for expectant parents.

An Infant CPR program covering infants to 1 year old (not a certified class) will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today.

A breast-feeding support group for moms and newborns meets at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

A Childbirth Refresher Course will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

A class to educate new parents about the day-to-day care of a newborn will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Feb. 28.

A six-week Prepared Childbirth Class will be held at 7 p.m. from Feb. 20 through April 3. The cost is $50 for couples delivering at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and $80 for those delivering elsewhere.

An infant safety program will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 21.

A maternity unit tour for expectant parents will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 21.

A kids safety class for ages 8 to 11 will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 25. This free class includes a basic review of simple first aid techniques, bike safety and information on home safety.

A free sibling class to help prepare children ages 3 to 9 for the new addition to the family will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 25.

A C-section birth class will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 28.

Blood pressure checks scheduled

Upper Chesapeake HealthLink is providing free blood pressure screenings throughout Harford County.

Screenings will be held from 10 a.m. to noon tomorrow at Highland Senior Center.

Screenings also will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the following Klein's stores in Harford County: Tuesday, Main Street, Bel Air; Feb. 21, Festival Shopping Center; Feb. 28, Forest Hill Shopping Center.

No appointment is necessary.

Doctor to speak at dinner lecture

Upper Chesapeake Health will hold a "Dining with Docs" dinner and lecture at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Upper Chesapeake Medical Center's Chesapeake Conference Center.

Cardiologist Dr. Lynne Einbinder will present "How Do You Mend A Broken Heart?" She will discuss advances in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease.

The cost is $5 (cash only). Reservations are required as seating is limited.
