Bridge for the Absolute Beginner - and a refresher for those who need one - will be offered from 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Wednesdays, starting Feb. 22 at the 50+ Center at the east Columbia library, 6600 Cradlerock Way.
The cost is $60 for six two-hour classes. An elementary bridge manual, which costs $5, will be used.

Cat adoption show scheduled for today
The Howard County Cat Club is scheduled to hold an adoption show from noon to 3 p.m. today at Columbia PetCo, 6181 Old Dobbin Lane, Suite 800.
All cats are neutered or spayed, have current vaccinations and have been tested for feline leukemia and FIV. Adoptive families must complete an application and sign an adoption contract. The cost is $100 for one cat, $150 for two.
The club's mission is to prevent cats from being consigned to shelters. Free behavior consultations are available by phone and e-mail. Volunteers and offers of foster homes are welcome.

At the library -- Howard County Chess Club will meet from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the east Columbia library, 6600 Cradlerock Way.
The library's New Release Cinema will show a popular digital video disc on a large screen at 7 p.m. Thursday. The title will be announced. Popcorn and drinks will be provided.
The library's Parent/Child Book Club, a group for those ages 9 to 12 to discuss books with their parents and peers, will talk about Deliver Us From Normal, by Kate Klise, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 21. The Morning Books With Coffee group will discuss The Man Who Ate the 747, by Ben Sherwood, at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 27 at the library. Registration for the book clubs is not needed, and copies of the books are available at the branch.
"Print Your Pics," a program to teach scrapbookers the basics of digital photo editing, will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 21. The class will be taught by Kelli Hillmar of Creative Memories.
