South County center schedules trips

Trips scheduled by the South County Senior Center include:

April 26 and 27, trip to Fallingwater, Kentuck Knob, Linden Hall and Nemacolin Woodlands in Laurel Highlands. Trip includes buffet dinner, overnight lodging and breakfast. Cost: $265 per person for double and $325 single.

May 9, B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, lunch at Chiapparelli's in Little Italy. Cost: $69.

May 23 and 24, trip to Philadelphia to visit Independence Hall, Liberty Bell Center, Christ Church Cemetery and National Constitution Center. There also will be a trip to the Italian Market and Termini Brothers Pasticceria. Cost of the trip, which includes transportation, meals, lodging, baggage and gratuities, is $280 (double occupancy) or $345 (single).

Events scheduled by the South County Senior Center include:

Today, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., blood pressure and glucose screenings.

Today, 1 p.m., Anansegromma of Ghana will present African drums, music, dance and a story.

Tomorrow, 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., basic word-processing workshop. Membership and registration required.

Friday, 1 p.m., meeting of people who want to perform in a May musical presentation. Singers, actors, dancers, production crew and helpers encouraged.

Friday, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., basic e-mail workshop. Membership and registration required.

Monday, 12:30 p.m., diabetes support group meets.

Feb. 15, 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., free continental breakfast. Sign up by Monday.

Feb. 15, 1 p.m., Sweetheart Dance with Bob Duckman.

Feb. 16, 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., workshop on buying and using digital cameras. Membership and registration required.

Feb. 17, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., "Files and Folders" computer workshop. Membership and registration required.

Feb. 21, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., representatives from Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. will offer help in filling out forms requesting energy assistance.

Feb. 22, 12:30 p.m., showing of the movie Must Love Dogs.

Feb. 23, 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., "Windows XP: Useful Operations" workshop. Membership and registration required.

Feb. 24, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., workshop on computer "cut and paste." Membership and registration required.

Feb. 27, 1 p.m., "Armchair Explorer" features slides and photos of Egypt.

March 8, 1 p.m., Blues Works musical show.

March 15, 1 p.m., Wild Irish Roses entertain with Irish dancing and fiddling.

Arnold center hosts activities this month

Arnold Senior Center has scheduled the following events:

Tuesday, 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Valentine's Day party.

Feb. 15, 1 p.m., Paul Stilwell will give a lecture based on interviews with the first black officers in the Navy in 1944.

Feb. 22, 9:30 a.m., students from Arnold Elementary School will practice reading with center members.

Feb. 22, 12:30 p.m., enjoy Cajun cuisine and jazz. Reservations by Feb. 17.

Feb. 23, 10 a.m., introduction to bird carving and painting class. Registration begins March 1.

Volunteers sought to aid with tax returns

The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging is seeking volunteer tax preparers to assist seniors in filling out income tax returns.

The program is free and available at county senior centers. Volunteers will receive a week's training. Information and registration: 410-222-4464.
