Navy gets by Army in OT, 67-62

Greg Sprink hit a three-pointer at the end of regulation and scored five points in overtime to lift the Navy men's basketball team over Army, 67-62, yesterday in West Point, N.Y.

Sprink finished with 23 points for the Midshipmen (9-13, 2-6 Patriot League). Matt Bell had 18 points for Army (5-16, 1-8).

Matt Fannin scored in the lane with 34 seconds left in overtime to give Navy the lead for good, 63-62.

Manhattan 86, Loyola 68 -- Devon Austin and Jeff Xavier each scored 19 points, and Arturo Dubois had 18 to lead the host Jaspers (14-7, 10-3 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) over the Greyhounds (11-10, 5-8). Manhattan opened with an 18-0 run en route to its third win in four games. Loyola lost its fifth straight.

New Hampshire 68, UMBC 65 -- Blagoj Janev had 16 points and nine rebounds, and Jamaal Caterina hit two free throws with two minutes left to lift the host Wildcats (9-13, 6-5 America East) over the Retrievers (8-13, 4-6).

Women

Canisius 87, Loyola 81 -- Cheri Wittlieb led all scorers with 26 points as the host Golden Griffins (12-9, 9-3 Metro Atlantic) shot 51.1 percent from the field to beat the Greyhounds (13-8, 8-4).

Georgia State 78, Towson 69 -- Keisha Monroe and Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen were a combined 13-for-14 from the free-throw line during overtime to lift the host Lady Panthers (7-12, 2-8 Colonial Athletic Association) over the Tigers (7-13, 2-9). Towson has lost eight straight.
