Fruity dessert ideal for party

RECIPE FINDER

February 01, 2006|By JULIE ROTHMAN | JULIE ROTHMAN,SPECIAL TO THE SUN

Alberta Pelekakis of Baltimore was looking for a favorite recipe she lost for a cherry-cheesecake type of dessert that she found on the side of a Dream Whip box several years ago.

She remembers that it was simple and delicious and something that she liked to make for large family gatherings. Janet Loux of Spearfish, S.D., sent in a recipe of her mother's that sounds just like what Pelekakis is looking for.

This recipe calls for cherry-pie filling, but blueberry or strawberry would work equally well. The whole dessert can be assembled in less than 10 minutes and requires no baking. This is an ideal party dessert because it can be made a day before it is to be served.

Recipe requests

Vonette Ball of Dearborn, Mich., is looking for a recipe from the 1980s called Chicken Vernonique. The recipe came from the back of A&P brand instant rice. It was quick and easy. The dish was garnished with green seedless grapes.

Ruth Beichner of Lucama, N.C., is looking for a recipe for Wedding Cookies that her mother made. It was a sugar-cookie type of dough, but it had dark-brown nuggetlike pieces in it that were not chocolate chips. It was made into a round ball, then flattened a bit and rolled in powdered sugar after it came out of the oven.
