Officials from the Community College of Baltimore County and the Maryland Transportation Authority Police are to renew today an agreement that provides college credit for studies at the police academy.
The eight-year-old program allows Transporation Authority Police academy students to take CCBC courses that count toward a School of Justice certificate. Once academy students earn the required 45 credits, they are encouraged to take 19 general education credits at CCBC to receive an associate degree.
CCBC faculty members teach entry level courses at the academy, on Broening Highway near the Key Bridge in Baltimore County, and the college's faculty also help create the curriculum. The 500-member Transportation Authority Police department is responsible for security at toll facilities, Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and the port of Baltimore.
Officials from both the college and the police department are scheduled to sign the renewal agreement today at CCBC's Dundalk campus.
