Janay Johnson, Catonsville

SPORT Basketball

GIRLS

STATS -- A three-year varsity starter, Johnson, 5 feet 9, averages 10.2 points and 8.7 rebounds per game as a power forward. Over the summer, she played for the Maryland Heat Amateur Athletic Union team and competed at the national tournament in Orlando, Fla.

SIDELINES -- The senior has a 3.9 grade point average and plans to become a forensic scientist. A fan of TV's Cold Case Files, Johnson enjoys working with chemicals in chemistry class. She has been offered a full academic scholarship to Canisius College in Buffalo, where she could play Division I basketball. However, she is also being recruited by several Division II and III schools. A member of the Black Awareness Club, which organizes social events for Catonsville students, Johnson is also part of the Rising Scholars program.
