Lillian M. Novotny, 90, homemaker

Lillian M. Novotny, a homemaker and church soprano, died of heart failure Jan. 14 at her home in Enterprise, Fla. The former longtime Hydes resident was 90.

Lillian Mae Garrett was born and raised in Baltimore, and was a 1933 graduate of Eastern High School. She worked briefly as a secretary for the Baltimore Health Department until she married Lawrence W. Novotny, a baker, in 1939. Mr. Novotny, who later managed the cafeteria at the Beta Shoe Co. plant in Belcamp, died in 1999.

Mrs. Novotny was a member for many years of Fallston United Methodist Church, where she sang with its choir. She also sang at weddings and local choral events.

Before moving to Enterprise last year, Mrs. Novotny had resided for a decade at Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville.

She enjoyed doing origami and collecting and displaying Hummel figurines.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Angels Chapel at Charlestown, 711 Maiden Choice Lane, Catonsville.

Surviving are a daughter, Lynn A. Montgomery of Enterprise; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her son, Richard G. Novotny, died in 2003.
