Woman, 74, credits running for health

If I were not already a runner, Chris Yakaitis' article "Warming up to running" [Anne Arundel edition, Jan. 11] would inspire me to get out there on the road. Running was something I had always wanted to do and I finally started when I was just turning 47. I've been running ever since and now - at 74 - this aerobic exercise has greatly contributed to my good health. I have never trained to run a marathon and have slowed down considerably, but I'm still out there winter and summer.

In case someone misses the 5K winter training program, the Annapolis Striders offers a 10-week course to meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 8 a.m. The first class is set for Saturday, April 29 at Bates Track in Annapolis.

Any runner completing the training should be prepared to finish the Women's Distance Festival 5K or the men's 5K on July 8 in Annapolis. For registration forms call director Evan Thomas at 410-451-4155.
