GM near deal to sell site of former Baltimore plant

Industrial-office business park reportedly planned

Though it didn't meet its goal of selling its closed Baltimore assembly plant by year's end, General Motors is poised to close a deal as early as January that would lead to the redevelopment of the 182-acre site as an industrial-office business park.

John McDonald, a spokesman for GM in Detroit, would say yesterday only that the company expects to complete the sale early in 2006. But Aris Melissaratos, Maryland's secretary of business and economic development, said the automaker had narrowed the selection to two potential buyers and could pick one next month.
