Standoff in Abingdon

CRIME WATCH

December 30, 2005|By AUSTIN FENTON

State police spent several hours yesterday morning negotiating with a 59-year-old Abingdon man who had barricaded himself in his home. Troopers from the Bel Air barracks responded to the house in the 2800 block of Preston Lane about 6:40 a.m., where a woman identified as the man's wife said he had assaulted her and threatened to kill her and then himself with a shotgun, according to a police press release. About 11 a.m., the man surrendered without incident. He was taken into custody and sent to Upper Chesapeake Hospital for a medical evaluation.
