Robert C. Heeney Jr., 50, sales consultant

Robert C. Heeney Jr., a leasing sales consultant, died of melanoma Tuesday at Johns Hopkins Hospital. The Columbia resident was 50.

Mr. Heeney was born in Takoma Park and raised in Laytonsville. He was a 1973 graduate of Gaithersburg High School and earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1977.

In 1982, he earned a master's degree in the Great Books curriculum at St. John's College in Annapolis, and a second master's degree in business administration from Loyola College in 1987.

Mr. Heeney began his business career working for Bank of America in Baltimore in the late 1970s, and later was vice president of leasing for a decade at Orix Credit Alliance Inc. in Hanover, Howard County.

He was a leasing consultant for Summit Bank in Columbia for two years before taking a position in 1999 as a leasing sales consultant with FSG Leasing Inc. in Laurel.

Mr. Heeney enjoyed traveling, sailing, golfing and playing tennis.

"Anything he did, he did with full energy," said his wife of six years, the former Kathleen Mary Sinopole, a special education teacher and curriculum coordinator at St. Elizabeth's School and Rehabilitation Center in Baltimore.

Mr. Heeney was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Wilde Lake Interfaith Center, 10431 Twin Rivers Road, Columbia, where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at noon today.

Also surviving are two daughters, Adeline Anne, 6, and Nora Magdalan, 3; a brother, Thomas L. Heeney of Rockville; three sisters Patricia M. Olson of Denver, Elizabeth A. Heeney of New Hope, Pa., and Margaret R. Greivell of Hollywood, St. Mary's County; and several nieces and nephews.
