Howard man killed in crash

December 29, 2005|By RICHARD IRWIN

A Howard County man was killed and his daughter injured when the car the father was driving yesterday evening on Interstate 95 near College Park left the road and struck a tree, state police said.

Christopher Paul Heacock, 29, of the 1100 block of Avalanche Way in Columbia was driving a Honda sedan south on I-95 north of Route 212 at a high rate of speed about 5:30 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, police said.

The vehicle swerved back and forth on the shoulder, struck a tree on the median and then overturned several times before coming to a stop 30 feet off the road, witnesses told police.

Police said Heacock was pronounced dead at the scene. His 6-year-old daughter, who was in the front seat, suffered minor injuries and was treated at Children's Hospital in Washington and released.

The accident remains under investigation.
