DR. FEDERICO G. ARTHES, 77, of Wyomissing, died December 22, 2005, at 2:45 A.M. in Phoebe Berks Skilled Nursing, Wernersville, PA, where he had resided since December 2. He was the husband of Mary D. (Dillon) De Antonio Arthes. Born in Guatemala Bay, Guatemala, he was the son of the late Guillermo F. and Concha (Solares) Arthes. He earned his medical degree from San Carlos University, Guatemala City, Guatemala. He served his internship and residency at Emory University, Atlanta and obtained his Masters degree in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System. Arthes was first employed as an internist at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System, Baltimore from 1966 to 1978. Following his time at Johns Hopkins he served as a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Later Arthes was a self-employed physician in Berlin, MD from 1981 until his retirement in 2002. Arthes served as Medical Director for Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Berlin, MD and for Wicomico Nursing Home, Salisbury, MD. He was an honorary life member and former officer of Medchi, Medical Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland. He has been a member since 1981. Arthes is survived by one son, Federico G., of Forrest Hills, MD, and two daughters, Annina M. (Arthes) Griggs, Lutherville, MD, and Cynthia (Arthes) Wierzbicki, Austin, TX. Other survivors include two step-sons, Michael G. De Antonio, Fleetwood, and James M. De Antonio, West Reading, and two step-daughters, Diana L. (De Antonio) Frick, Cambridge, MD, and Colleen M. (De Antonio) Schmura, Mohnton. There are also 17 grandchildren. Memorial Services will be Tuesday at 1 P.M. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Johns Hopkins Children's Center Office of Development, One Charles Center, 100 North Charles Street, Suite 200, Baltimore, MD 21201.
