Today's game

Motor City Bowl

Akron (7-5) vs. Memphis (6-5)

Site -- Ford Field, Detroit

Time -- 4 p.m.

TV -- ESPN

Line -- Memphis by 5 1/2

Key stats: -- Akron is 25th in pass ing offense (262.2 ypg). Memphis is 104th in pass defense (263.9 ypg).

Akron -- The Zips won the MAC ti tle game at Ford Field over Northern Illinois to earn their first bowl bid. QB Luke Getsy (250.0 ypg, 19 TDs) - a transfer from Pittsburgh - did a nice job replacing Charlie Frye; still, he makes some ill-advised throws (12 in terceptions), and despite good mobil ity, he can be harassed into mistakes. TB Brett Biggs is the main man on the ground (1,184 yards, 10 TDs).

Memphis -- It's all about TB DeAng elo Williams, who averages 172.6 yards per game. The passing attack? There isn't one. Maurice Avery starts at quarterback. He began the season at wide receiver but was pressed into quarterback duty when the first two players suffered broken legs.

The buzz -- Memphis loves to blitz, but a MAC team (Bowling Green) picked the blitz-happy Tigers apart in a bowl last season. Akron's Getsy, WR Domenik Hixon and Biggs are going to put some points on the board. The question, then: Can Williams contin ue to do it all for the Tigers?

The pick -- Memphis, 35-27.
