Plan OK'd to expand nursing programs

The Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission has approved funding for a plan to expand the number of nurses in the state by increasing the capacity of nursing programs. The nurse support program will spend $9.4 million a year over the next 10 years on nursing faculty scholarships and fellowships, nursing scholarships and competitive institutional grants.

Manchester man is killed in crash

A 56-year-old Manchester man was killed Friday night when his motorcycle struck a car, police said. Gerald Lee Strosnider was on his 1979 Harley Davidson motorcycle headed west on Route 140 approaching South Pleasant Valley Road when he crashed into a 2000 Kia Sephia turning left from South Pleasant Valley Road onto Route 140, according to the Maryland State Police. Strosnider, of the 2700 block of Rachele Court, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kia was driven by Dennis Wayne Hamme, 32, of the 300 block of Greengate Court in Westminster. Police said charges against Hamme are pending a review by the state's attorney.

Police seek details about burned body

Baltimore County police are looking for any information connected to an unidentified burned body found on the side of Interstate 83 early yesterday morning. The Baltimore County Fire Department initially responded to the southbound roadside area of I-83 between Middletown Road and Mount Carmel Road after a passerby reported what was believed to be a brush fire about 1:30 a.m. Anyone who saw anything is asked to call police at 410-307-2020.

Officials encourage recycling wrapping

Baltimore officials are encouraging people to recycle paper wrappings and boxes from gifts. The materials can be placed out for collection on regular recycling days, or they can be dropped off at one of the city's five free locations: Northeast Collections Yard, 6101 Bowley's Lane; Northwest Collection Yard, 2840 Sisson St.; Southwest Collections Yard, 701 Reedbird Ave.; Northwest Transfer Station, 5030 Reisterstown Road; and Quarantine Road Landfill, 6100 Quarantine Road.
