Robert Francis Vavrina, 74, attorney at firms in Md.

Robert Francis Vavrina, a retired attorney, died Saturday of pneumonia at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick. The former Annapolis resident was 74.

He resided at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home for the past three years as an Alzheimer's disease patient.

Born in Baltimore and raised in Hamilton, he was a 1948 graduate of Loyola High School. He earned a degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law and served in the Army as a military policeman in Berlin.

Mr. Vavrina practiced law at Callahan, Calwell and Laudeman in downtown Baltimore and later at Vavrina and Laudeman in Chevy Chase and Annapolis. His interests included golf, running and listening to music.

A Mass was offered Tuesday at St. John Neumann Roman Catholic Church in Annapolis.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, the former Myra Wilder; a son, Brian Vavrina of Arnold; a daughter, Denise Vavrina of Houston; a sister, Jane Bittner of Baltimore; and two grandchildren.
