Dicus Mill Road bridge to be closed through Jan. 2

Anne Arundel County officials expect to close the one-lane Dicus Mill Road Bridge from today through Jan. 2 for repair work.

Crews will replace sections of the bridge deck that have been covered with steel plates. The project for the Severn River bridge is estimated to cost $84,000.

Motorists who normally use Dicus Mill Road to access Gambrills Road, Benfield Road or Interstate 97 will be required to use Route 3, Route 175 or Route 32.

County budget department lauded

The Anne Arundel County budget department has earned a budget presentation award from a North American association of government finance officers.

To qualify for the honor from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, budget departments must satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The association serves 14,000 government finance professionals in the U.S. and Canada.

The county budget office is responsible for overseeing a $1.3 billion budget for fiscal year 2006.

Holiday trash services curtailed

The county Department of Public Works announced that the recycling and trash facilities in Millersville, Glen Burnie and Sudley will be closed tomorrow through Monday and Dec. 31 through Jan. 2.

There will be no curbside trash and recycling on Sunday and Monday and Jan. 1 and 2.
