STATS -- The senior threw the shot put 45 feet, 4 inches to win his first event of the season against more than 10 others two weeks ago at Loyola. Wilson, in only his second competitive season of organized track and field, came out for the sport at the urging of former All-Metro throwing specialist Da'Vaughn Mellerson, a 1996 graduate of Mount St. Joseph and an assistant in outdoor track.

SIDELINES -- Wilson is the defending Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association discus champion, and the outdoor runner-up in shot put. Wilson plays trumpet in the school band, and has an interest in an engineering major in college. Known as a "Mr. Fix-it" around his home, Wilson can break down or rewire most any computer, television or video game. Wilson also is involved in the sound and engineering ministry at his church. He is a B-average student.
