Roch Around The Clock

Talk about feeling lonely. I'm sitting here at FedEx Field, all by myself, not even a stadium worker in sight. Been here since 3 p.m. Sunday. Call me stubborn, but I refuse to leave until the Cowboys show up. ...

Now, Ron Artest says he wants to stay with the Pacers after demanding to be traded. Miguel Tejada heard this and told an Associated Press reporter: "That guy needs to make up his mind." ...

Look for Jeff Conine to sign with the Orioles this week, and for fans to continue debating whether it's wasted effort by the front office. OK, Conine isn't going to hit 40 home runs and carry the team into first place. But he'll be a nice component on the bench, capable of playing the outfield and first base, providing a veteran right-handed bat in reserve and setting a nice example if the club chooses to bring up young, impressionable prospects such as Nick Markakis and Val Majewski. He also could assist Walter Young's development as a first baseman. Sam Horn volunteered for that job, but was politely turned down.

If nothing else, Conine would take some of the heat off Jay Gibbons and Brian Roberts, who were fully cooperative with the media last season but grew tired of being the daily spokesmen. ... At least the guy wants to play here. The Braves are closer to his Weston, Fla., home and tend to make the playoffs more frequently than the Orioles, but Baltimore remains the favorite to sign him. Ain't that a switch?
