Roch Around The Clock

December 19, 2005|By ROCH KUBATKO

There's always room for Jell-O and another Manny Ramirez story. Let's go with the latter right now.

A reader, Joel, reminded me of another great Manny tale, which he heard from a Fenway Park employee two years ago while touring the ballpark with his wife after an April game against the Orioles. Ramirez once asked a young clubhouse attendant to have his car washed before the team returned home from a long road trip. The kid said he'd gladly do it, but he didn't have any cash on him. No problem, Ramirez said. Just go to the glove box and take some money out of there.

The kid went to Ramirez's car, opened the glove box and found $60,000 in brand new $1,000 bills.

I really wish the Orioles would trade for this guy, if only for the stories.
