High school to present concert

Westminster High School music students will present a winter choral concert at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the school, 1225 Washington Road.

Tickets are $3, and $2 for students and senior citizens. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to needy Carroll County families.

Financial aid topic of presentation

The Winters Mill High School guidance department will hold a presentation on college financial aid at 7 p.m. tomorrow in the auditorium at 560 Gorsuch Road.

The financial aid director of Villa Julie College will talk about state and federal financial aid programs and how to complete the application for federal student aid.

City leaf pickup to end Friday

The Westminster Department of Public Works will conclude its regular Leaf Vac program Friday.

Midshipman part of training exercise

Midshipman Marcial J. Garcia recently took part in training at sea while serving with Submarine Squadron 11, San Diego, Calif. He is the son of Kathy Garcia of Westminster and Marcial Garcia of Union Beach, N.J.

Choir to offer Christmas cantata today

Grace United Methodist Church choir will present the Christmas cantata "2000 Decembers Ago" at 10:30 a.m. today.

Angela Baublitz will direct the singing, narration and acting. Soloists include Cherie Rhoten and Bill Workman.

The church youth will go Christmas caroling at 5 p.m. today. All are welcome. A party will be held afterward.

A Christmas Eve candlelight service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, with the sermon "Christ is Coming - With Grace."

Sunday school is at 9:15 a.m. and worship is at 10:30 a.m. Sundays.

Senior center sets gift exchange, talk

The North Carroll Senior Center, 2255 Hanover Pike, Greenmount, has announced activities.

The Site Council will meet at 11 a.m. tomorrow.

A nutrition talk will be held at noon tomorrow.

The center's Country & Variety Band will perform Tuesday.

The Christmas Gift Exchange will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

SOUTHWEST

Church hosts pageant for Christmas

St. James' Episcopal Church will present a Christmas pageant and the adult choir's music program at 4 p.m. today.

Refreshments will be served afterward.

Christmas Eve services will be held as follows: children's Eucharist at 4:30 p.m., Christmas Eve Eucharist at 7 p.m., candlelight Christmas vigil with lessons and carols at 10:30 p.m., and candlelight Eucharist at 11 p.m.

Christmas Day Eucharist will be held at 11 a.m.

Beth Shalom to hold ethics class for teens

Beth Shalom Congregation of Carroll County will hold Shabbat services for the holidays at the synagogue, 2020 Liberty Road near Winfield.

A class on basic Jewish beliefs and ethics will be offered for teens ages 13 to 17. Participants can discuss their feelings about religious, social and moral issues within a Jewish context.

Firefighters plan `Santa Detail' ride

Winfield Community Volunteer Fire Department will continue its "Santa Detail" program through the communities in its response area.

Santa Claus will ride on a fire engine from about 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and tomorrow..

The schedule of visits is:

Dec. 18: Park Side; Klees Mill Road and Bartholow Road; Klees Mill to Route 26; Old Washington Road and Bartholow Road; all of Washington Road to Bushey Road to Arthur Shipley Road; if time allows, Braddock Road area.

Dec. 19: Streaker Road from Woodbine Road to Green Hill Way, French Avenue, Grace Lee; to Old Washington Road to Piney Run; Chiseled Stone Road; if time allows, Lego's Choice and Teklen Drive.

Health club schedules Doggie Swim

Merritt Athletic Club in Eldersburg will hold a Doggie Swim from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. today.

Dogs can swim the club's pools before the facility is closed for cleaning. A Doggie Swimsuit Competition also will be held.
