County to offer legal aid clinic

The Bureau of Aging will sponsor legal aid walk-in clinics for seniors in need of legal advice.

The next clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the bureau, 125 Stoner Ave., Westminster.

Seniors in Action announces trips

Seniors in Action Recreation Council has announced coming trips that are open to everyone.

A deposit is required. Travel insurance is available. Trips not filled 30 days before the scheduled date will be canceled and deposits returned.

Scheduled trips include:

Jan. 12: Wicked at the Kennedy Center. The cost is $118 for members and $124 for nonmembers, and includes a box supper.

Feb. 2: The American Ballet Theater's Romeo and Juliet at the Kennedy Center. The cost is $100 for members and $105 for nonmembers, and includes a box supper.

County will clear snow, ice for seniors

The Carroll County Bureau of Aging has begun a program this winter called A Clear Path.

The program provides assistance with snow and ice removal for isolated adults age 60 and older and for people age 50 and older who have disabilities.

People requesting the service must live in Carroll County and have medical needs that require them to have help shoveling.

People who want to find out whether they qualify for the program or who know someone who would benefit from the service can call Brenda Shipley at 410-386-3802.

Volunteers are needed to make the program successful. Those interested in volunteering are asked to call 410-456-3984.

County to honor its centenarians

The county will honor its centenarians in May at a celebration at the Carroll County Farm Museum.

Residents who will be age 100 by April 30 and have lived in the county for at least 20 years will be recognized.

Those planning to attend must register by Jan. 31 through the farm museum at 410-386-3891.

Senior centers offer classes, talks, music

Activities at the Carroll County Bureau of Aging's five senior centers include classes through Carroll Community College, Health Department talks and blood pressure screenings, book clubs, instrumental and choral music groups, and arts and crafts.

All centers serve lunch at low cost.

A Senior Inclusion Program provides recreational activities for those with developmental disabilities. The program operates from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays at Westminster Senior Center.

The centers are in Westminster, Mount Airy, Eldersburg, Taneytown and Greenmount.

Mount Airy center offers activities

Mount Airy Senior Center has announced activities for this month.

The Site Council will meet at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow.

"Walkways" will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Free blood pressure screening will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. A speaker from the Carroll County Health Department will discuss holiday eating.

Mount Airy Senior Book Club for adults will meet at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Children from the community will visit the center to see Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Christmas bingo will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday. Lunch reservations must be made in order to play bingo. The cost is a donation up to $3.48 for lunch and $1 for a bingo card.

A "Noon Year's Eve" celebration will be held at 11:45 a.m. Dec. 30 with lunch and entertainment by Steve Flynn at 12:30 p.m. Reservations are required.

The center is at 705 Ridge Avenue.
