Warrant issued in Carroll killing

December 17, 2005|BY A SUN REPORTER

State police have obtained a murder warrant for a man wanted in a fatal shooting Dec. 7 in Westminster.

Shawn Anthony Jones, 27, is wanted in the killing of Donnie D. Bowman, 43, of Westminster and the wounding of Lamont Dew, 39, of Baltimore, authorities said yesterday.

The incident occurred about 8:30 p.m. outside a convenience store on Pennsylvania Avenue at Union Street. Witnesses told Westminster police that a man fired shots into a 1992 Honda Accord where two men were sitting in the store parking lot. The man then entered the car, and it left the area.

The car was driven about two miles to another convenience store, where the suspect fled the scene and the driver asked employees there for help.

Westminster police, Carroll County sheriff's deputies and state police responded to the scene, where they found Dew wounded and Bowman dead in the front passenger seat.

Dew was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Authorities said he has been released.

A $2,500 reward is being offered for information leading to Jones' arrest and conviction. Authorities believe he is still in the Baltimore and Westminster areas.

Anyone with information is asked to call Cpl. Tina Becker at the Westminster barracks at 410-386-3029 or Greg Shipley at 410-653-4236.
