Christmas program for kids is tomorrow

Christ Lutheran Church, 12570 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, will present a Christmas program for children, "Go Tell It on the Mountain," from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow at the River Hill Meeting Room, 6330 Trotter Road.

The outreach program for children in kindergarten through the fifth grade is designed to teach children to share the story of Christmas with friends and family; it includes Christmas stories, games, crafts and songs. Pizza will be served for lunch.

Space is limited; admission is free.

Menorah Factory at Lubavitch center

In preparation for Hanukkah, the Lubavitch Center for Jewish Education will sponsor a Menorah Factory, open to children and adults, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the center, 770 Howes Lane, Columbia.

Participants can watch olives being pressed to make olive oil for the Hanukkah lights, and they can make a menorah to use in celebration of the holiday, when oil lights or candles are lit for eight days.

Admission to the Menorah Factory is $6.

Theme for Sunday: darkness, then light

The theme for Journeys Community's 10 a.m. Sunday service will be "Honoring the Darkness; Rejoicing in the Light." The theme focuses on honoring the darkness that we experience at this time of year and rejoicing in the light that comes from it.

Christmas pageant at church Sunday

In preparation for Christmas, the Sunday Church School of First Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold its Christmas pageant, in which children re-enact the story of Christ's birth, at 11 a.m. Sunday. The pageant will replace the regular service.

The church will hold its last Advent vesper service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

First Evangelical Lutheran Church is at 3604 Chatham Road, Ellicott City.

Hanukkah program is set for Sunday

The Columbia Jewish Community School, affiliated with the Columbia Jewish Congregation, will offer a Hanukkah program with music, food and crafts from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at Oakland Mills High School, 9410 Kilimanjaro Road, Columbia.

The Baltimore Klezmer Orchestra will perform at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

A program for prekindergartners, with Jewish songs, stories, craft activities and food, will be held from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Admission is free. Everyone is welcome.

The congregation is sponsoring a lecture and discussion series on death and dying, End-of-Life Issues from a Jewish Perspective. Rabbi Tzvi Schur will discuss Hospice Care at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Oakland Mills High School. Admission is free to members of the congregation; there is a fee for nonmembers.

Shrine planning Day of Recollection

The Shrine of St. Anthony will hold a "Day of Recollection: Getting ready for a simple and holy celebration of Christmas," from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow at 12290 Folly Quarter Road, near Glenelg.

The program, to be led by the Rev. Jude Winkler, will examine the Christmas story found in the Gospels of Mathew and Luke, and help participants take a break from the holiday rush to more fully appreciate the meaning of Christmas. Lunch will be served.

The cost is $35 and includes lunch.

`Skate Day' to be held at roller rink Dec. 25

Hadassah and the Jewish Federation of Howard County will sponsor a "Community Skate Day" from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 25 at the roller rink of the Supreme Sports Club, 7080 Deepage Drive, Columbia.

The cost is $20 a family. There is an additional charge for skate rental.

Harvester Baptist's Christmas Eve service

Harvester Baptist Church, 9605 Old Annapolis Road, Columbia, will hold its Christmas Eve Service at 6 p.m. Dec. 24.

Refreshments will be provided after the service.

N. Laurel church plans holiday show

The Harbor City Music Company Show Chorus, a women's a cappella chorus, will present a holiday show for children at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow at Emmanuel Methodist Church, 10751 Scaggsville Road, North Laurel.

The one-hour performance includes games, snacks and a visit from Santa Claus, who will have a gift for each child.

Tickets are $10; $5 for children, and up to $25 a family.
