County police are boosting patrols over holiday period

December 16, 2005|By MELISSA HARRIS | MELISSA HARRIS,SUN REPORTER

More Howard County police will patrol village centers, shopping malls, roads and liquor establishments from today until the end of the holiday season.

Officers have signed up for overtime shifts to handle extra speeding enforcement, and police who are on duty are being asked to do more foot patrols and village center checks, said Pfc. Jennifer Reidy.

The Police Department performs these additional holiday details because of an expected increase in robberies, thefts and shoplifting.
