Nature tales

The lowdown -- Looking for fun that will keep you and your child occupied? The Nature Story Hour from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at Cylburn Arboretum Association features an hourlong story time, and a nature walk follows, weather permitting.

If you go -- The Nature Story Hour will take place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at the Cylburn Arboretum Association, 4915 Greenspring Ave. Children ages 3-6 are $1, and adults are free. Call 410-396-7839 for more information.

Santa on skates

The lowdown -- Enjoy hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows after getting a workout on the ice with Santa. The Dominic "Mimi" DiPietro Ice Rink invites you to skate Saturday to holiday music and attend an arts-and-crafts workshop afterward with Santa.

If you go -- "Skating with Santa" will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Dominic DiPietro Ice Rink, 200 S. Linwood Ave. Admission is $4, skate rental $2. For more information, call 410-396-9392.

Camping in the city

The lowdown -- Imagine all the fun of an authentic campfire with none of the hassle of camping. That's the idea behind Campfire Hikes at Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park on Saturday and Wednesday. Planned activities include a campfire with s'mores and exposure to activities such as wildlife rescue and stream conservation, in conjunction with the park's Carrie Murray Nature Center.

If you go -- Campfire Hikes at Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park, 4300 Windsor Mill Road, will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday and at 6 p.m. Wednesday. $5 a person. Call at least 24 hours in advance. For more information and reservations, call 410-396-0808.
