Talented teens

The lowdown -- It's never too early to start flexing your artistic muscles. On Sunday, attend Coffeehouse Expressions, an open-mike event at the Columbia Teen Center, and hear poetry, comedy and music from a crop of talented minds -- all 18 or younger. Introduce yourself to performers at the meet-and-greet session , then sit back and enjoy a new generation of performers.

Flea market

The lowdown -- Like it or not, winter weather is here, and amid the snow and wind, anything that lifts our spirits is a much-needed gift. Hence the beauty of the Ottobar's Winter Flea Market: A variety of used and new super-cheap items, including everything from clothes to DVD players to original artwork. Also check out a Santa's Helpers Fashion Show and live music, including DJ Slender, The New Flesh, Yukon and Temp Sound Solutions.

Get your Kix

The lowdown -- The local five-piece Kix garnered MTV and Billboard attention in the late '80s and early '90s with its rock songs and power ballads. The group disbanded about 10 years ago but still sporadically plays gigs in the area like Saturday's show at Rams Head Live.
