Volunteers sought to aid with tax returns

The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging is seeking volunteer tax preparers to assist seniors in filling out income tax returns next year.

The program is free and available at senior centers throughout the county. Volunteers will receive a week's training in January. Information and registration: 410-222-4464.

O'Malley center sets workshop, classes

O'Malley Senior Center has announced these activities:

Tomorrow, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., workshop on how to make Christmas decorations from wool and other materials. Supply fee: $8. Registration.

Tomorrow, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., computer class, "Windows XP: All your questions answered." Registration; class size limited.

Friday, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., computer class, "Keyboard and mouse use." Registration; class size limited.

Pascal Senior Center plans dance classes

Pascal Senior Center is planning dance classes for seniors from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 12 through March 16. The classes include African dance, ballet, jazz dance, hip-hop, liturgical dance and creative dance. Discount for seniors. Registration.

South County Senior Center will offer these activities:

Today, Heritage Harbor Chorus will present a holiday music show.

Monday, 10 a.m. to noon, annual holiday celebration, member talent show.

Dec. 21, 12:30 p.m., movie and popcorn; feature to be announced.

Dec. 26, center closed.

Dec. 28, 12:30 p.m., bingo and New Year's celebration.

Jan. 10, 10 a.m., presentation on Parkinson's disease.

Jan. 11, 1 p.m., Jack Julius will present a magic show.

Jan. 18, 1 p.m., Johnny Walker will be on hand for an afternoon of music, dancing and fun.

Pascal Senior Center plans church trip

Pascal Senior Center will sponsor a trip to hear a concert of songs and carols at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, in Hanover, Pa., tomorrow. Lunch will be at Hickory Bridge Farm. Participants must be age 55 or older and members of the center. Information: 410-222-6682.

Seniors sought to teach life skills

The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging is seeking "volunteer grandparents" to work with children 15 to 20 hours a week. Activities include mentoring, tutoring and giving advice on life skills, with extra attention for children in Head Start, special education, shelters or family-support centers.

Other activities include reading stories, working with puzzles, and helping children learn to feed themselves and set a table, as well as learn colors, numbers and the alphabet. Volunteers must be income-eligible and at least 60 years old. Benefits include a tax-free stipend, paid training, free transportation, sick leave, lunches and medical exams.
