BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Runner of the Year

Andrew Mahone

Bel Air

This marks the third consecutive year that a Bel Air runner has been named Runner of the Year. Under the tutelage of Bryan Thom and Brett Kelly, the two previous county Runners of the Year, Mahone strung together three consecutive wins at the Bobcat Invitational (16 minutes, 46 seconds), the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference's Chesapeake Division meet (15:58) and the UCBAC championships (16:22).

Coach of the Year

C. Milton Wright

The Mustangs hadn't stood on the winners' podium in two years -- an unusual experience for a program that had taken 15 county titles between 1986 and 2002. Prospects looked bleak as Bel Air finished ahead of C. Milton Wright at the Harford and Bobcat invitationals. But the Mustangs turned the tables on the Bobcats at the championship level. C. Milton Wright knocked off Bel Air at both the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference's Chesapeake Division meet and the UCBAC championships.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Runner of the Year

Sara Bailey

C. Milton Wright

The sophomore carried on the Bailey tradition of success in running. Her brother Pat won two Class 4A state crowns in cross country, and brother Dan claimed the Class 3A state championship in the 3,200-meter run. Sara Bailey, who filled the void created when 2004 Harford County Runner of the Year Allison Barnes opted to concentrate on swimming, took home the inaugural Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference and Class 4A North regional championships.

Coach of the Year

Rob Torres

John Carroll

Tabbed by some as a sleeper candidate in the race for the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference championship, the Patriots announced their presence by upsetting then-No. 4 Broadneck at the Barnhart Memorial Invitational. John Carroll, which won the small schools division at the Bull Run, finished second to Seton Keough at the IAAM championships, but had a faster average team time than Notre Dame Prep, which captured the IAAM A Conference title.
